Early Life
Hans Lippershey was born in Wesel, Westphalia, around the year 1570. Almost nothing is known about Lippershey’s life, but it is apparent that between 1570 and 1608, Lippershey became a master lenscrafter and spectacle maker and established a shop in Middelburg, the capital of the province of Zeeland, in the United Provinces.
