Article abstract: Military significance: The Ghaznavid Empire was the first Muslim state dominated by slave soldiers and the first of many Muslim states to be dominated by a Turkic military class. The first empire to use large numbers of elephants among Islamic armies, it was also the primary contributor to the spread of Islam into India through conquest.
