Article abstract: Military significance: Clark’s conquests of British posts on the far frontier allowed the United States to claim the region after the American Revolution.
In his youth, George Rogers Clark was commissioned a captain in the Virginia militia and saw extensive campaigning in Lord Dunmore’s War against the Shawnee Indians in 1774. Clark was a very persuasive commander with personal charisma, speaking abilities, and leadership. His American Indian opponents had great fear and respect for Clark.
