Article abstract: Deganawida enlisted the aid of an orator and diplomat, Hiawatha, to spread his vision of a united and peaceful Iroquois Confederacy, formed of separate nations, which had suffered from internal wars and feuds that nearly destroyed Iroquois civilization.
