In Pueblo culture, all social and religious life revolves around the theme of achieving harmony with the gods of nature to ensure the prosperity of agriculture and hunting. The Deer Dance is performed to achieve harmony with the spirits of the deer to ensure daily survival. Like all game animal dances, the Deer Dance is believed to cause an increase in the deer population and also to enhance the skills of those who hunt them.
