Summary of Event
The advent of the Industrial Revolution led to the development of severe air pollution problems. Prior to this time, there were periods when coal burning was forbidden. These earlier complaints, however, were based mainly on aesthetic reasons. Large-scale industrialization resulted in much more serious environmental problems.
