Traveling in a group for purposes of defense. The ancient Greeks, Romans, Chinese, Persians, and Egyptians guarded supply wagons with soldiers, creating convoys to prevent loss of materiel to raiding enemies. Convoys are especially important during periods of guerrilla warfare, because mobile partisans are well equipped to overpower poorly protected teamsters and supply trains.
