History of Hostility

Japan and China had been in conflict since the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895. During World War I, Japan interfered in Chinese politics and tried to take control over part of China’s economy. In the 1930’s, Japan took control of Manchuria, in the northeast of China; Japan attacked China in 1937, beginning a long, bloody war that cost millions of lives.
