The Chiaha (or Chehaw) were a horticultural people who lived in raised dwellings located in several large permanent villages within sight of their extensive fields of maize, beans, squash, and other plants (including tobacco). For men, hunting and trapping were favorite pastimes, and they encouraged relationships which were critical in trading and in political alliances.
