Article abstract: Military significance: Champa could not overcome the military strength of neighboring countries, was unable to count on powerful allies, and was ultimately annexed by Vietnam.

In the second century, the seafaring state known as Champa, near Danang in central Vietnam, seceded from a weakened Han Dynasty of China. In 248, the Chams pillaged towns along the north border and fought a battle with China, and from 270 to 280, Champa fought against the Chinese-controlled Tonkin state.
