Boulder Dam (since 1947 known as Hoover Dam) was officially accepted by Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes on March 11, 1936. On completion, the dam was the world’s highest and largest, rising 727 feet above bedrock and containing more than 3 million cubic yards of concrete. The Grand Coulee Dam, completed in 1942, surpassed it with more than 10 million cubic yards...
