Article abstract: A Shawnee war chief, Blue Jacket organized pan-Indian resistance against white expansion into Ohio Country during the 1780's and 1790's.

Blue Jacket was born at a time of intensive trade between his Shawnee people and both the French and British, mainly in furs. After the British won the French and Indian War in 1763, they assumed control over the former French lands east of the Mississippi River.
