Early Life
Beatrix Cadwalader Jones was born on June 19, 1872, in New York City to a wealthy, socially prominent family. Her parents were Frederick Rhinelander Jones and Mary Cadwalader Rawle. They divorced by the time Beatrix was twelve. Her aunt was the novelist Edith Jones Wharton, a keen gardener with whom Beatrix had a close relationship.
