Bea Medicine

Article abstract: One of the few Native American women with an advanced degree in anthropology, Bea Medicine has specialized in studies of Lakota culture.

A Standing Rock Lakota elder, Bea Medicine taught in schools sponsored by the U.S. Indian Service and promoted ethnic studies programs and urban Indian centers throughout the United States and Canada. She holds a doctoral degree in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and is professor emerita at California State University at Northridge.
