After two years of indecisive campaigning, the combined forces of the Imperial Habsburg dynasty, led by Count Charles de Bucquoy, and the German Catholic League hoped to end the Bohemian revolt by seizing the province’s capital. Maneuvering against this, the Bohemian army, led by Prince Christian of Anhalt-Bernberg, occupied a position overlooking the city during the night of November 7, 1620.
