On January 24, 1525, Charles de Lannoy’s imperial army of about 24,000 men left its base at Lodi and set out to end the French Siege of Pavia. However, the French avoided battle, and Lannoy consequently decided to attack the main camp of Francis I, which was located in a large park north of Pavia.
