Lodi was an effort by Napoleon Bonaparte to prevent the Austrians from escaping across the Adda River at Lodi. Napoleon ordered a forced march to seize the two-hundred-yard-long bridge. However, when the French advance guard arrived about 11:00 a.m. on May 10, the main body of the Austrian army, led by General Johann Peter Beaulieu, had already crossed.
