On December 15, 1838, an Afrikaner commando force of about 470, led from Cape Colony by Andries Wilhelmus Jacobus Pretorius, arrived on the banks of the Ncome River, thus encroaching on Zulu chieftain Dingane’s Zulu Kingdom.
