Aztalan

Aztalan was a colony of Cahokia that flourished between 1100 and 1300 c.e. At its height the population reached around five hundred people, living within an area of 21 acres. The site was stockaded and encompassed houses, at least three platform mounds, and crop fields. Additional burial mounds were located beyond the palisades. Immigrants from the Mississippian tradition probably ascended the Mississippi, Rock, and Crawfish rivers to establish Aztalan on the banks of the Crawfish in Jefferson County, Wisconsin.
