Australian troops are commanded through the Ministry of Defense, to which all services report. In 2000, all Australian Defense Force personnel totaled 57,400. The U.S.-made F-111 bomber remained at the heart of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Two out of Australia’s sixteen air squadrons were equipped with F-111’s; the total number of combat aircraft was 125. The F-111’s were expected to be operational into the 2020’s.
