Article abstract: Military significance: Attila provided the primary military threat to the integrity of the Roman Empire during the years 435 to 453.
Attila was the son of Mundiuch, king of the Huns, but little is known of his youth. In the late 430’s, he and his brother Bleda acceded to the throne. About 445, Attila murdered Bleda and became sole king. Attila adopted a truculent attitude toward the Roman Empire to the south.
