Archibald Wavell

Article abstract: Military significance: Wavell’s skill in maneuvering gave him crushing victories against overwhelming numbers of Italians in Egypt in the early days of World War II.

Archibald Wavell came from a military family. He graduated from the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, in 1901, in time to fight in the final stages of the Boer Wars. In 1910, he attended Graduate Staff College and became an expert in Russian.
