Article abstract: Gaudí is generally regarded as the foremost architect produced by Spain, but his place in architectural history is difficult to classify. Although he started out strongly influenced by medieval models, he became a prolific inventor of imaginative forms and innovative structural devices, showed himself to be a master in the handling of building materials, and is justly recognized as a brilliant manipulator of space, color, and light.
