Article abstract: Moniz made two important contributions to the field of neurology during the 1920’s and 1930’s. He was the father of cerebral angiography and later developed the prefrontal lobotomy, for which he received the Nobel Prize in 1949.
Early Life
Born on November 29, 1874, in Avança, Portugal, António Caetano de Abreu Freire was baptized with the added honorary name of Egas Moniz. He attended boarding schools operated by the Jesuit Order or lived with his uncle, Abadelde, a priest. It was his uncle who carefully supervised his education....
