Angelica Kauffmann

Article abstract: Refusing to accept the traditional role for the woman artist as a painter of portraits or still lifes, Kauffmann determined to become a history painter. An early exponent of neoclassicism, she produced some of the finest works done in this style, which helped greatly to popularize the movement throughout Europe and in England.
