Albert Calmette

Article abstract: Calmette, working with Camille Guérin, was the first to introduce vaccination against tuberculosis. In 1894, he improved the serum used to treat patients with plague that was first prepared by Alexandre Yersin. Calmette was one of the first to introduce a single antiserum against snake venom that was effective against many different types of snakes. His work in public health extended to the introduction of sewage purification as well as the control of many infectious diseases.
