Article abstract: Military significance: From 1952 to 1956, Ben Bella organized the external supply network for the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) forces fighting against the colonial French forces.
Ahmed Ben Bella did two stints with the French army during World War II. In the 1940 North African campaign, while posted at Cap Janet, Ben Bella was awarded the Croix de Guerre. Called back from the reserves in 1943, he fought in the Italian campaign and was awarded the Médaille Militaire (1945).
