A Shaky Peace Treaty

On March 7, 1993, the Afghan government and leaders of eight rebel factions met in Islamabad, Pakistan, to sign a peace pact aimed at ending the fighting that had killed an estimated five thousand people and wounded thousands more. The conflict had forced an estimated 750,000 people to flee Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan.
