The Story:
At Vaucouleurs castle, Robert de Baudricourt was berating his steward for claiming that the hens had stopped laying. The steward insisted they would not lay until Robert talked to Joan, the Maid, who demanded to see him. Robert finally admitted Joan. She promptly requested a horse, armor, and some soldiers to take her to the dauphin. She had already persuaded several soldiers to accompany her and convinced them that God had sent her to save France from the English occupying force. Robert yielded, and the hens immediately began laying again.
