Biff Wilcox "is a member of another group, formerly allies of Rusty-James's group, now enemies. Rusty-James notes that if the old gang wars were still going on, Biff would be leader of his gang, the Devilhawks. He is tougher and more dangerous than most kids." However, the real antagonist in this novel is poverty.  Rusty, Motorcycle Boy, Biff, these kids are never going to get away from their dead end lives because the poverty of life is like an anchor around their souls.

i say that motorcycle boy is the antagonist because he knew rusty james wanted to be like him and the antagonist of the story takes or prevents the protagonist from getting what they want and thats exactly what motorcycle boy did. he took away hope from rusty james wanting to be like him and made rusty james face his own mistakes by himself.what kind of brother is that? and as you may see biff wilcox is only metioned in the beggining of the novel. he did make things harder for rusty in the middle or end!
