    There are several predominant themes discussed in William Faulkner's classic short story "A Rose for Emily." Among them are death and dying, the decline of the Old South, social isolationism, and the differences of class status. A spinster who becomes the main focus of gossip in the little Mississippi town of Jefferson, the once well-to-do Emily Grierson exhibits her shortcomings in dealing with all of these themes as Faulkner creates a character that is both sympathetic and revolting at the same time.
