Both Emily and Granny have been jilted.  Emily has been jilted twice--by her father and by Homer Barron.  Her father jilted her because he prevented her from having suitors, which scarred her for life.  Homer Barron jilted her by not wanting to marry her.  Granny has also been jilted by the love of her life and was left at the altar, which she has never gotten over.  Neither Emily nor Granny was ever able to truly experience a life with their true loves.
