Do you think Homer Barron was gay? Posted by sharrons on Mar 5, 2009. |

No. He wooed Emily, he bedded Emily, she bought men's toiletry items with his initials carved in them...it is clear that she thought they would marry. He must have had different ideas and planned to leave her which would have been detrimental to her reputation. So, she made sure he never left. I see no evidence whatsoever that Homer was gay. In response to 2, the evidence is, the narrator says "Homer wasnt the marrying type and he preferrded the company of men." It is subtle, but I just wondered....... Posted by sharrons on Mar 6, 2009. |

I think the quote that you are referring to just means that he liked "hanging with the guys". Doesn't seem like Homer was the marrying type--I think you'd be more likely to find him at the local pub having drinks with his friends on the construction crew. He liked Emily...just not enough to make him change his ways and marry her...so she changed them for him!! :) Posted by charcunning on Mar 9, 2009. |
