   Lord Montague arrives on the Verona street in Act 1, scene 1 after the brawl between the Montague and Capulet servants.  He then has a conversation with Benvolio regarding Romeo and how worried he is about his son.  In this scene we learn a few things about the personality of Lord Montague.  First, we learn that Lord Montague has a genuine concern for his son and truly is a caring person.  This can be seen in his explanation of  how Romeo has been acting:

         “Many a morning hath he there been seen,
          With tears augmenting the fresh morning dew…

          Black and portentous must this humour prove,
          Unless good counsel may the cause remove”  (A. 1, s. 1)

   We then learn that he might not have the closest relationship with his son because Romeo will not tell him what his problem is when Lord Montague states, “I neither know it nor can learn of him.”  (A. 1, s. 1)

   Finally, Lord Montague expresses that he would like to help his son to find a cure for this problem that is occurring in his life when he says:

        “…Could we but learn from whence his sorrows grow.
         We would as willingly give cure as know.”  (A. 1, s. 1)
