    Lord Montague tells us that Lady Montague dies after she finds out that Romeo has been banished. Her character doesn't have a big part in the play, so students sometimes overlook her death in the play.

    Lady Montague dies after her son's exile. It is thought that she died of grief, as Montague states:

    Prince.
    Come, Montague; for thou art early up,
    To see thy son and heir more early down.

    Montague.
    Alas, my liege, my wife is dead to-night;
    Grief of my son's exile hath stopp'd her breath:
    What further woe conspires against mine age?

    Lady Montague does indeed die, but that's not the real question that I have. If you don't already know, all 6 characters die because they are terrible with time (a motif). Shakespeare punishes those who mess up time; therefore, Romeo, Juliet, Paris, Tybalt, and Mercutio must all die since their timings have all been off. I just don't quite understand why Lady Montague has to die since she has had almost no part in the play and I don't really see anything wrong with her timing. I mean really now...Capulet and the Friar have worse timing than her.

    The one thing I do understand is that Shakespeare wanted balance. By killing Lady Montague, balance and justice was brought. 2 escalus's (however you spell it), 2 Montagues die, and 2 Capulets die because of this. Out of all of the Montagues, I supposed Lady Montague, in a way, fits the description.

    Just some food for thought...but yes. Lady Montague is the one that dies...Not that you would need to know anymore since it's been 2 years anyways...

    In Romeo and Juliet the sixth person to die is Lady Montague as she kills herself as she can't live without Romeo after he was banished to Verona.
