Why do Romeo and Juliet not leave Verona as a solution to their problem?

It wasn't simply a matter of moving away; it would be a complete loss of identity, support, and spirit--you were defined by where you lived. This was a very Shakespearean idea and appears throughout his work. Much as banishment was as worse as death later for Romeo, so would have been leaving the city, even together.
