In this scene, Romeo is dismayed over his unrequited love for Rosaline.  While this depth of emotion does not contrast with the events of the feud, Romeo's apparent romantic devotion to someone other than Juliet does tend to cause the reader to believe that he would not fall in love with someone else at any time in the near future.  In addition, Romeo speaks of the cruelty of love and seems to feel a great deal of heartache; because of this, the reader might imagine that he would not be eager to persue another romance.  Romeo, who has not yet met Juliet, tells Benvolio that he cannot do anything other than think of Rosaline.
