Is friar Laurence a more effective parent to Romeo than the Montagues?

    In a word, no.  Unfortunately, Romeo and Juliet have no one in whom they can confide and receive sound guidance.  A good parent would never come up with such a ridiculous scheme, one riddled with so many holes that the outcome seems a foregone conclusion.

    A good parent would have counseled the young couple to date, and to wait.  A good parent would have sought some sort of reconcilliation between the warring families.

    Certainly Romeo's parents too are ineffective.  We know less about them than of Juliet's mother and father, but they too fail him with their age-old feud with the Capulets.  But Friar Laurence more effective, again, no.
