Discuss with your class the purpose and function of the Chorus. The Chorus has four purposes in Romeo and Juliet. First, Shakespeare uses a chorus to outline the plot of the tragedy for the audience. Second, the chorus introduces the conflict between two families and the twin themes of love and violence. Third, the chorus introduces the important role of fate in the lives of the characters.
