In Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, the author doesn't give the reader any physical description of Harlan Granger other than to indicate that he's a white man. One could argue that Mildred Taylor (author) does so intentionally in order for us to form our own mental image of this antagonist. Granger is a middle-aged man intent on keeping the Logan family (and other African-Americans in the story) in line. He does so out of racial predjudice, but also (and perhaps as important to him?) for economic reasons.

In addition to the answer by my compatriot, rugator, we are given a few other clues about the wealthy landowner of Mildred Taylor's novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry.
The most powerful man in this rural area of Jefferson Davis County, Granger, who drives a flashy, silver Packard, "stared sourly" at the identical model that Hammer Logan also drives (presumably out of admiration but also to mock Granger), and "stepped briskly" in the Logan's yard. With a "grunt," Granger speaks to the Logans in his "folksy dialect." He smokes a cigar and "ran his tongue around his lips." He smiles slyly. In the final chapter, he "comes running off the porch" and later shovels dirt to fight the fire with the rest of the men.
