    Absolutely: the e-notes links below offer a range of useful critical overviews and links to critical essays from a variety of perspectives on the story. However, it would be useful to establish your own points of view on key themes of the story to further appreciate critics' views. For example, it would be valuable to have your own opinion on materialism versus family values, and your reasoning for Hester's indifference. Also, a personal definition of greed and who in the story is guilty of greed is an interesting area to explore before considering the views of others.

    A further point to look at is how the story is viewed in contemporary times: many critical views are almost as old as the story itself. Looking at the financial inadequacy and desperation of the family might be interesting to consider in the light of our current economic climate.
