Ringworld | Characters
Like many science fiction traditionalists, Niven's works have little psychological interest. He forms characters for the sake of the story rather than for their own sakes. The hero, Louis Wu, has the desire to seek out the unknown, the ability to work well with strange environments and creatures, and the tendency to succeed by his wits and imagination which characterize many of Niven's protagonists. Such characters express perfectly the values of enterprise and exploration found in his stories.
