Why didnt Rikki break Nagaina's back when he first had the opportunity?

    Rikki did not yet have the knowlege that an older mongoose would have. If he had he would have realized he could break Nagainna's back with one fierce bite. As it was, he was afraid that she would strike back, so he bit quickly and then jumped out of the way.
