    In the short story "Rikki Tikki Tavi" by Rudyard Kipling, Rikki is exploring the garden after being rescued from the flood by the family who lived there. Rikki happens upon Darzee and his wife. They were sitting on the edge of their finely crafted nest, and they were crying. Rikki wanted to find out what was wrong, and when he asked, Darzee told Rikki that one of the babies had fallen out of the desk and Nag had eaten ita. Rikki and Nag argue about it, when all of a sudden, Darzee yells, "Watch out!" Nag's mate has tried to attack Rikki, but he is too quick for her. Thus begins the conflict between Nag, Nagaina, and Rikki, and Rikki vows to rid the garden of the cobras.
