how would you express the theme of relationships in the remains of the day?

im doing a comparitive study between this an the life of pi on any chosen theme and am struggling to compare the 2

    Relationships in this novel are reserved, formal. Lord Darlington kept things conversations with Stevens formal-even reading a book while discussing things to avoid anything other than talking about the matter at hand. Miss Kenton is not without emotions, but she expresses them in a very reserved, control manner. The same is true for Stevens, his father used a very abrupt manner with him, and he has grown up keeping himself at a distance from others.
