These crimes, featured in some of the links below, have been going on for the last six to eight months and are a challenge for both Indian and Australian governments. Like many nations, Australia is being hit hard by the recent economic downturn with decrease in growth figures and increase in unemployment. Indians in Australia are being looked at with increasing resentment and this is problematic because Australia is dependent on the Indian work output and college enrollment. It is a challenge for both nations, and as recently as two to three weeks ago, Indians were attacked with petrol bombs and, in another incident, screwdrivers.
