As the third largest city in the United States, Chicago has a multitude of sites at which events can be held. With Lake Michigan and the Chicago River right in the city, there is plenty of water for competitions. Possessing professional athletic teams, Chicago has venues for soccer with the recently renovated Bears' Legion Field, basketball where the Chicago Bulls play, McCormick Place and a Stadium which can host large events. Navy Pier is also a huge venue. As such a major city, Chicago has two airports, O'Hare on the north side of Chicagoland, which hosts both national and internation flights, and Midway on the south side, which is a national airport. Public transportation is available with trains and the "L." Taxis and buses abound in Chicago. There are many, many hotels. This city, which, in fact, is recognized as an international city, has a myriad of people of various ethnic backgrounds, so people from other countries will easy find Americans with whom they can communicate. Chicago is a beautiful city that is kept clean. Mayor Richard M. Daley has made many improvements in the aesthetics and safety of this city in recent years in his efforts to make his city tourist friendly. Indeed, there is a marked difference in the attitudes of taxi drivers as they graciously let cars merge or change lanes when heretofore they would not do so (I know from having lived there and recently having visited). Security in the city has been assured by the removal of questionable places of business from the tourist areas by measures instituted by Mayor Daley. In contrast to Atlanta where the Summer Olympics were held in the last decade, the temperatures rarely soar to 100, so the climate is more conducive to outdoor activities, as well. Famous for its great restaurants, food, architecture, museums, second-largest aquarium in the United States, and its skyline, Chicago has added to its fame by being the home of President Barrack O'Bama. Indeed, now there is much inducement for people to visit. So, Chicago would be a great venue which would probably profit from its efforts to host the 2016 Olympics. (I had two sites listed, but the answer was moved to discussion. You can just type in Chicago on a good search engine and view a tour of the city. This is what I looked at to generate my ideas.)
