I am in the process of creating a (3rd-4th Grade level) reading workbook that includes 10 stories with corresponding questions and activities.  The book will be about 30 pages when completed.

I was wondering if anyone knew how I would go about selling AND advertising it. 

So far I've looked into:

1. Self Publishing on Create Space.  The problem with this is the book would end up costing a total of 10.00 (this is including shipping and handling.)  Is this too much money?

2. Selling it as a digital file on Lulu.com and teacherspayteachers.com for about 3 dollars.

Also as far as advertising, I do have a blog that I could advertise it on.  However, so far, only about 10-20 people visit my blog a day...

One source you might consult is the Writer's Yearbook, which is published annually. I haven't looked at a copy in several years, but unless the format has changed drastically, you should find that it lists specific publishers and the materials they publish. Also, in the past, at least, it was very detailed in terms of what each publisher wanted (cover letter, etc.), and it included the names of contact persons and mailing addresses. You should be able to find a current copy at the library and for sale at any major book store. Good luck to you!

If I were in your shoes, I would market it to people I know. That’s a built-in sales market that is easy to tap. When you send a workbook to someone, include some business cards and ask the buyer to be sure and distribute the cards to others who might be interested in the book.

Amazon, or better yet teacherspayteachers.com.  Teachers can make their own price and set it up like an ebay account, and other teachers can purchase if they like the price, or you can put it on sale and see if you get any offers.

There are several places that you might investigate for getting this book published. One place I would suggest is contacting TeacherDiscovery. They have a great catalog of resources for teachers, and I know many of them are created by other teachers. If you have developed the reading/writing/thinking connection strongly enough in your book, the National Writing Project might offer some options as well. The website http://englishcompanion.ning.com/ might offer a forum of other teachers with whom you could discuss this. Also I would suggest the National Council for Teachers of English. It also wouldn’t hurt if you had some evidence of how this improves students’ abilities in some way.
