The greatest tribute Americans could pay those who died in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks would be to defend the United States and prevent future attacks from occurring. This cause has already been undertaken with the adoption of the USA PATRIOT Act, which expands government powers and intelligence capabilities in order to reduce terrorism. Since the Patriot Act was passed, authorities have made great strides in the war on terrorism, while preserving the safety and liberty of Americans.
