What evidence is there in this chapter that the narrator is taking care of her husband in much the same way a nurse takes care of a patient?

    What chapter are you talking about?  The first one?  If so, there is a sense that they are very reclusive: they take their dinner in the hotel room (like a sick person might, and as Mrs. Van Hopper did), they leave friends early, and there is a sense of impermanence in their life.  The narrator speaks with fragility about her husband, saying that he would rather read the news of England in newspapers than actually experience it himself.
